This month we studied asteroids, which vary in size from large to just a few metres. Ceres and Vesta lie in the main Asteroid Belt which is between Mars and Jupiter, they are the two biggest examples. In the beginning Ceres was possibly scheduled to become another planet until Jupiter's rampage deprived it of vital "growing material". Together these two bodies account for 43% of the entire mass in the belt. Moving out of the Inner Solar System, the Kuiper Belt is home to many more mysterious bodies, one example of which is Ultima Thule, which is a bizarrely shaped asteroid nicknamed "The Gingerbread Man".
