A Cappella - August 2026

Following on from the joy of our first birthday celebrations last month, we were absolutely delighted to welcome 33 singers to our latest session - even with the summer heat pressing in. Thankfully, the WI Hall was cool, bright, and full of energy, and we made the most of it.

We revisited some of our favourite repertoire, polishing familiar harmonies, before diving into new material. There was real excitement as we listened, learned, and then performed two new pieces: Simon and Garfunkel’s Feelin’ Groovy and the hauntingly beautiful Hebridean traditional song Eriskay Love Lilt.

Buoyed by the success of our very first madrigal — a five-part rendition of Now is the Month of Maying — we decided to stretch ourselves again. This time we expanded the harmonies of one of our classic pop favourites, Da Doo Ron Ron, and the hall rang with vibrant four-part barbershop chords. It was one of those moments where you could feel the whole room lift.

We’re now looking forward to our debut performance on Friday 31 July at Moorfield Court, and we hope it will be the first of many opportunities to share our music with the wider community.

If you’d like to explore our repertoire or learn more about what we do, please visit our website. And if you’re tempted to join us — wonderful. Our next rehearsal is on Wednesday 19 August, 2–4pm at the Southwell WI Hall. You’re welcome to get in touch for more details, or simply come along. A warm welcome is guaranteed.
