In April we looked at our nearby neighbour Mars, comparing and contrasting conditions there with our own planet Earth, going back many years to when they were first created then moving right the way through time to the modern era. The May meeting will go ‘science fiction’, looking at how in the future not only could humans land on Mars, but stay there for a number of days and even colonise the red planet with a view to becoming as self-sufficient as possible using the natural resources out there.
In June we will welcome an external guest, Shaun Livsey, who gave a talk at one of the general meetings last year. He is an entertaining speaker who will cover some bizarre astronomical facts and get the audience to give their own views and ideas.
We meet on the fourth Thursday of every month from 10am to 12 noon in the downstairs back room of Southwell Library. The dates of the next few meetings are 25th June, 23rd July and 27th August.
We try to cater for beginners by not making the sessions too technical but with enough content to stimulate the more knowledgeable. After coffee the audience gets the chance to ask questions, comment or offer views, which is, I think, an important part of our sessions.
