AN ASTRONAUT’S VIEW
From the confines of my tiny capsule,
Now I view the Earth through different eyes,
Its vulnerability plain for all to see.
Floating through the deep and silky blackness,
Lost in the vastness of the universe,
The Earth shines like a bright and distant star.
Clouds reflect the piercing rays of the sun.
Protected by its fragile atmosphere,
A hair-thin silver line at the edge of the world,
The blue-and-white marble hangs alone in space.
Our fragile sphere, our one unique oasis,
With meaningless and merely man-made borders,
Artificial lines designed for conflict,
I can see only one Earth, one planet
Delicate, exquisite, tiny, whole and elegant
