Featured Poem: Dandelion Clocks
by Anne Wells (© 2026)
Perched on their stalks
Haphazardly
Scattered across
The field
We taught our children
How to blow time
Fluff sailed through the meadow
Tiny particles launched
from their fragile anchorage
We counted away
Hour after hour
Heedless of the
Extravagance
Remembering when
We were urged
"To make time"
"To use time wisely"
And "time will run out"
We run out of dandelion clocks
While around us
Spiralling seeds
Dropped to the ground
Or catching a breeze
Floated dreamily
Somewhere
And time stood still
And held our silence
Creative Writing Goes Public!
The Southwell u3a Creative Writing Group was formed in August 2022, bringing together seven writers and a group leader who have met every fortnight since then to share the craft of writing and the joy of words.
On 24 April 2026 the group published its very first anthology: Learning, Laughing, Living — a collection of over 70 stories and poems written by members whose ages range from their sixties to their eighties. The book is available in paperback worldwide through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Dillons, and World of Books, priced at just £9.99.
All revenue from sales will be donated to u3a funds, so the group encourages members and friends to buy a copy and leave an online review. Your support is greatly appreciated!
