Southwell u3a celebrates milestone 900th member

Southwell u3a is celebrating a remarkable milestone, having officially welcomed its 900th member — a testament to the group’s growing popularity and community spirit.

Founded with the aim of bringing people together who are no longer in full time employment, to continue learning, sharing, and socialising, Southwell u3a has flourished in recent years. The achievement of 900 members reflects not only the vibrant, inclusive culture of the organisation but also the increasing appeal of lifelong learning and social connection in later life.

Offering over 80 interest groups — ranging from art and music to walking, languages, history, and science — Southwell u3a has something for everyone. Its welcoming atmosphere and peer-led format encourage members to share their skills, pursue passions, and build lasting friendships.

The group’s monthly meetings at the Leisure Centre feature a first-class speaker and have become a staple of community life in Southwell and the surrounding area.

Chairperson, Mike Freementle, expressed delight at the milestone: “Reaching 900 members is an incredible achievement. It shows that the desire to learn, connect, and stay active doesn’t stop with age. We're proud to be part of such a dynamic and supportive community.”

As Southwell u3a continues to grow, plans are already underway to continue expanding offerings. With its reputation for warmth, inclusivity, and lifelong curiosity, Southwell u3a is proving that age is no barrier to growth — both personal and collective. Here's to the next milestone!
