This month we looked at how our perception and understanding of time has been influenced by the movement, apparent or otherwise, of the Earth, Sun, Moon, planets and stars. Such motions have long been used as a basis for creating primitive calendars, which played a large part in the life of ancient man with respect to planning farming programmes, religious activities (dictated by worship) and indeed life in general. The division of a day into parts as determined by a sun dial was a significant next step forward.
