The Recorder Group first met in April 2015. We have grown to 25 members at present, playing recorders from the small sopranino through descant, treble and tenor, to three sizes of bass. We welcome invitations to play for events, and in our history we have played at garden parties, village concerts and other events, and twice at the 'Carols for Everyone' concert in Southwell Minster.

Each year we meet three other local u3a groups for a joint playing day, and our own annual concert is usually in October.

Our music is chosen and arranged to suit differing musical interests and abilities.  It ranges from Tudor times through to modern popular music and new pieces written or arranged for us.  Dance tunes, folk songs, popular modern tunes, carols and more serious music are all in the mix. Much of our repertoire is music requested by members and arranged "in house" (four of our current members have arranged music for us).

New Members:

For anyone looking for a new interest or rekindling past abilities, we welcome new members, whatever their level of recorder ability.

Learning to Read Music and/or Play the Recorder?

The main needs are to have reasonably nimble hands, plus the ability to read music at least in the treble clef. We are happy to help with informal coaching and instrument loan.
